I recently have had sores breakout on my penis. I have had no sexual contact in the past 6 months?

Saturday, October 24th, 2009
Charles asked:

I have been blood tested for gonorrhea, syphilis, Hepatitis, aids, and chlamydia, and they all came back negative. I then went and got blood tested for herpes 1 and 2. Herpes 1 came back negative, while herpes 2 came back equivalent. The doctor told me that since I have had no sexual contact in the past 6 weeks that I could not have herpes. That was a relief, but I don't think it could be true. What could these sores be, or does anybody really understand what the blood tests means when it is equivalent.

Herpes – the Most Significant Symptom

John Currie asked:

What is the Main Herpes Indication

Herpes is a disease that is responsible for eruptions of sores on the skin. There are several of the virus, and every strain causes a similar but different type of outbreak.

There are 2 main types that are the most frequently experienced. The first strain of herpes is herpes simplex 1 which will affect parts of the body above the waist. The outbreaks mainly occur on the inside and outside of the mouth.

Herpes Transmission

The other dominant member of the herpes family is the herpes simplex 2 virus which is also referred to as HSV 2. It is this herpes family member that and affects the pubic areas as well as the buttocks and lower back. We will be talking about the type of outbreaks this virus causes in greater detail a little further on.

Herpes simplex 1 is the mildest form of the herpes virus. The outbreaks are cold sores, or fever blisters, that are found inside or outside the mouth. This disease is (transmittable and incurable. The way to pass this disease is by the contact with the lesions. This virus can also result in genital herpes, but it is generally located around the mouth.

This is known as oral herpes. These lesions erupt when the immune system is weakened or stressed. Thus the name fever blisters, or cold sores, refer to these lesions occurring around the time a cold appears.

Herpes simplex 2 is the most commonly talked about form of herpes. HSV 2 is passed through sexual activity. The blisters that occur from this strain are similar to cold sores; The HSV 2 virus as a rule causes most concern. It is spread sexually. Although the blisters from herpes simplex 2 look the same as cold sores they only normally appear in the pubic region.

Genital herpes (the blisters) in males will make their appearance on the penis shaft, the anus, the buttocks and even on the inner thighs and lower back. Woman will see the blisters appearing over the whole of the pubic area, including the anus and buttocks. Sometimes the outbreak is that mild that a torch or flashlight is used during the examination.

So what do herpes sores look like? Sometimes herpes simply manifests as reddening of the affected area. You also may fee feverish and even have some flu like aches and pains. A discharge from the penis or vagina also often occurs.

That first herpes outbreak will always be the worst! Expect to suffer from swollen lymph glands and flu systems apart from the the eruptions. Subsequent outbreaks will inevitably be less severe:shorter in length and not as acute and could happen about 5 times a year. This obviously will depend on the state of your immune system and how much stress you have in your life.

It Is Hard To Tell About Genital Herpes

Monday, June 15th, 2009
Keith George asked:

There is often some confusion when it comes to herpes and that is easy to understand. The genital herpes is a topic that is not often discussed in the course of normal conversation. But, if you are 25 years old and over and sexually active with several partners, it is wise to be tested for genital herpes as that is a very common form of herpes. It is wise as millions of Americans are living with genital herpes because the disease can sometimes be surprisingly difficult to detect.

It is important to know and to recognize the symptoms of genital herpes. You should always seek an official diagnosis from a medical professional if you are at all concerned that you may have the disease. Many feel ashamed when they learn to know that they have genital herpes but medical experts will tell that you should not be embarrassed and the sooner you get treatment the better. When you have been diagnosed as positive, it is not necessary to identify the source and you may have had it for years already.

Doctors will tell you that it is safe to have sex with others as long as you avoid to have sex during outbreaks. You can learn to notice the warning signs of when an outbreak will be coming. It is a fact that most people infected with oral herpes are not even aware of the fact that they have the disease.

More than half of the people who have herpes show no symptoms and they are unaware that they are carriers of the disease and are capable of transferring the virus. The recurrence pattern of herpes is also as varied as the people who harbor the virus. There are estimations that 20% of the population in the USA has herpes. That is one out of five people! Now, that number is uncertain and can be a distortion of the facts.

If the signs and symptoms occur during the first outbreak, then they can be rather severe as the first attack is pretty violent. Then the virus remains dormant within the neuronal cells of the dorsal root ganglion. It will give rise to recurrent lesions but they are milder in intensity as compared to the primary attack.

This is one of the least damaging viruses and actually milder even than its relatives, the chicken-pox/shingles virus and the mono/chronic fatigue virus. The herpes simplex virus 1 is generally caught in the childhood and the genital infection from herpes simplex virus 2 is usually caused by sexual contact in the adulthood. The incubation period for genital herpes infections is up to a fortnight after exposure to the virus. Teenagers and adults who are sexually active should never have unprotected sex with a person who they even suspect may be infected by genital herpes.

Of course it can be difficult to ask someone if they are aware of having genital herpes. But how can you tell if someone has genital herpes? Pregnant women who have ever had an outbreak of genital herpes should discuss with the obstetrician before the due date. Then they can eventually plan for a non-vaginal delivery and in that way protect the baby.

Persons that are infected with genital herpes should have mercy and give others the chance to avoid the disease. One alternative is to avoid any sexual contact, which of course is very hard for most. So if you have genital herpes, you must tell your new sex partner about it and then decide about your intimate contacts.

The Most Important Herpes Manifestation

Thursday, June 4th, 2009
John Currie asked:

Herpes - The Most Significant Symptom.

The herpes simplex virus causes outbreaks on the skin. Although there are many different types of herpes, they all cause outbreaks or lesions unique to that particular strain.

The herpes family is dominated by two strains in the main. First is the HSV 1 strain that affects the mouth both inside and out.

Spreading Genital Herpes

The other dominant member of the herpes family is the herpes simplex 2 virus which is also referred to as HSV 2. It is this herpes family member that and affects the genitalia as well as the buttocks and lower back. We will be discussing the type of eruptions this virus causes in greater detail a little further on.

Take note of the fact that although HSV 1 causes mainly herpes of the mouth, it can also easily be spread to the genitals through oral sexual activity. It is highly transmittable although it is actually a milder member of the herpes family of viruses.

The blisters or sores that sometimes appear in and around the mouth when one is getting a cold or flu are typical of HSV 1. This is referred to as oral herpes.

Herpes simplex 2 is the most commonly talked about form of herpes. This strain is passed through some form of sexual intercourse. The lesions that occur from this strain are similar to cold sores; The herpes virus that causes genital herpes is the virus that raises most concern. HSV 2 causes lesions and blisters on the genitalia and surrounding pubic areas including the buttocks and the anus.

Genital herpes (the blisters) in males will breakthrough on the shaft of the penis, the anus, the buttocks and even on the inner thighs and lower back. Woman will see the eruptions appearing over the whole of the pubic area, including the anus and buttocks. Sometimes the outbreak is that mild that a torch or flashlight is used during the examination.

So what do herpes sores look like? Sometimes herpes simply manifests as reddening of the affected area. It is popssible that you could also feel feverish and even have some flu like aches and pains. A discharge from the penis or vagina may also occur.

Those first outbreaks of herpes are usually more severe, and generally involve flu-like symptoms and swollen glands for a week or so. Following outbreaks tend to be periodic and only occur about five times a year. These herpes outbreaks can also be brought on the stress level of the infected person. The outbreak may also be elongated due to depression.

Herpes – Thinking About Herpes Simplex

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
Zinn Jeremiah asked:

When the word herpes is used, it's usually meant to reference a case of genital herpes. The herpes virus actually comes in several forms, but the most common herpes virus form by far is herpes simplex. The two variations of herpes simplex are, naturally enough, herpes simplex 1 and herpes simplex 2.

Oral herpes is typically caused by herpes simplex 1, though herpes simplex 1 can, on rare occasion, cause a case of genital herpes. Genital herpes is typically caused by herpes simplex 2, though herpes simplex 2 can also, rarely, cause oral herpes.

Herpes is an exceptionally common virus, likely surpassed in commonness only by the virus causing a typical cold. It's believed that eighty to ninety percent of all adults are infected with herpes simplex 1. Herpes simplex 2 is significantly less frequent, but still fairly common with an infection rate of roughly twenty percent of all adults.

Not all cases of herpes are symptomatic. In herpes simplex 2 cases, up to ninety percent of infected persons aren't aware of their status because symptoms either are not present or are not unique enough to be recognized. When a herpes infection does present symptoms, the symptoms are typically an outbreak of blisters, or lesions.

Herpes is a transmittable condition, especially during a symptom outbreak. It was once believed that herpes transmission could only happen if a symptoms outbreak were occurring, but evidence now demonstrates that the herpes virus can be on the skin surface, and thus can be transmitted, even when no visible signs of an outbreak are present. The presence of herpes virus at the surface of the skin without symptoms being present is known as asymptomatic shedding.

When herpes is transmitted, the path to infection is skin-to-skin contact. Intimate skin-to-skin contact is the way that herpes is spread. Secondary objects, such as a toilet seat or some other public resource, are not means for passing a herpes infection. Herpes is transmitted when people have intimate physical contact, usually while an outbreak is ongoing.

Herpes infections can absolutely be a nuisance and can be physically uncomfortable as well, but a herpes infection is not considered a serious health threat. A person's general health state is not compromised from a herpes infection. The only possible exceptions to this are herpes infections in infants -- typically infants become infected with herpes from a genital herpes infected mother -- and herpes infections in persons with seriously compromised immune systems.

A trait of any case of herpes is symptom consistency. When herpes symptoms do take place, they remain in the area of the body where infection initially occurred, and don't move about.

Tell Me About Herpes Simplex 2

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009
Chas Oliver asked:

Herpes Simplex 2 is shorthand for Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2, or HSV 2. There are two strains of the Herpes Simplex Virus: HSV 2, and Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1, or HSV 1. When a Herpes Simplex 2 infection presents obvious symptoms, which it usually does not, the symptoms are most likely to be an outbreak of blisters in the genital area. Because Herpes Simplex 2 typically presents symptoms in the genital area, Herpes Simplex 2 infection is often referred to as genital herpes.

It's thought that twenty percent of adults in the U.S. have Herpes Simplex 2 infection, though some estimates put the infection rate at twenty-five percent of U.S. adults. Whatever the actual number, Herpes Simplex 2 infection is becoming increasingly common. One likely reason for the increase in Herpes Simplex 2 transmission is status ignorance: an overwhelming majority of Herpes Simplex 2 infected people -- eighty percent or more -- don't know they're infected. This sheds light on one of the myths of genital herpes: that it is a highly symptomatic condition, with gruesome outbreaks. The dramatic images of genital herpes outbreaks that one may come across are actually the exception, not the rule.

It used to be thought that Herpes Simplex 2 infection could only be transmitted during an obvious outbreak, but research has demonstrated that the Herpes Simplex 2 virus can be present on the body surface even when the classic symptoms of an outbreak aren't occurring, and when the virus is present it is transmittable. This appearance of Herpes Simplex 2 virus in the absence of identifiable outbreak symptoms is referred to as viral shedding. Some herpes researchers question whether viral shedding isn't actually just an outbreak, minus some of the more classic outbreak symptoms. In any event, the consensus is that Herpes Simplex 2 is transmittable at potentially any time, because of viral shedding.

Some would attribute the increasing rates of Herpes Simplex 2 infection to transmission during viral shedding, but this is questionable. There is considerable ignorance about how the symptoms of Herpes Simplex 2 typically present themselves, and the uninformed often associate genital herpes infection with obvious blistering outbreaks. So the slight discomfort or itch or unusual appearance in the genital area is not genital herpes but jock itch, or an ingrown hair, or shaving irritation. Additionally, people typically presume -- incorrectly -- that genital herpes symptoms always appear within a few days after infection. As stated previously, the large majority of people with Herpes Simplex 2 infection don't recognize symptoms at all; and it's possible for someone to recognize genital herpes literally years after they were infected with it. This ignorance about actual Herpes Simplex 2 symptoms and infection time line may be the most significant factor in increasing transmission rates, not viral shedding.

Herpes Cure? What’s That?

Sunday, April 12th, 2009
John Currie asked:

The herpes simplex virus has been aggravating the world since time immemorial. It is indeed a plague because there is no known herpes cure. Becuase herpes withdraws and hides in the nerves between outbreaks (it then lies dormant), it is virtually impossible for your body to fight it.

Herpes announces itself in an outbreak of tiny vessicles manily around the pubic region which later turn into open lesions. After an outbreak the HSV retreats back to the nerve endings and hides, making it difficult to treat or to find a cure.

A Cure For Herpes Studies

Currently many people are working hard to try to find a herpes cure. However right now the only form of treatment is that which helps suppress the herpes outbreaks as well as topical treatments to kill the virus once an outbreak occurs.

The simple fact that herpes is a virus makes it so hard to find a herpes cure. As a rule the immune sustem will deal with and destroy any viruses it finds but that fact that the herpes virus hides itself so well in the nerves when in the dormant phase makes finding a herpes cure a more difficult task.

Herpes Cure Medicines

Medication is currently the only solution that we have for herpes. Antiviral medication can help suppress the herpes outbreaks (but is not a herpes cure) and (sometimes) keeps the condition dormant. However varying levels of stress can still cause the virus to come out of the dormant stage. As of now there are no approved herpes vaccinations; however scientists are testing vaccinations on willing participants.

Prevention won't cure herpes, but...

Always use protection with new partners or if you know or suspect your partner may have herpes. This alone will help enormously in protecting you from getting infected with the herpes virus.

Sexual activity of an oral nature will also transmit the herpes virus. Using protection will prevent the spread of herpes in this manner. It is simple to do and whilst it is not a cure for herpes, it will almost certainly prevent you from contracting or spreading the herpes virus

If you are searching for an absolutely sure way to not get infected with herpes, you will need to think about abstaining from all sexual contact.

Genital Herpes Symptoms Will Show Up Within the First Few Weeks of Infection

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus, and there are two distinctly different types of this herpes simplex virus. These are, originally enough, called Type 1 and Type 2, or HSV 1 and HSV 2. If a person has genital herpes symptoms, it will usually show up within the first few weeks of infection.

Otherwise some people might not display any genital herpes symptoms at all. And some people will not even notice if they have genital herpes as the genital herpes symptoms can be very mild to non-existent.

In fact some people can mistake genital herpes symptoms for something as mild as a skin rash. This also depends on whether you have type 1 genital herpes, or type 2 genital herpes.

Type 1 genital herpes symptoms are generally to be found in the mouth or the nose area, whereas the type 2 genital herpes symptoms are more likely to occur in the genital area.

This does not mean however that either type of genital herpes is specific to any particular area. These are just the more common places where the different types will display genital herpes symptoms.

Genital herpes symptoms can last for several weeks, so if you are sexually active you should try to abstain from having sexual relations from the time that you first notice genital herpes symptoms, to the time when they have all cleared up. Sexual relations in this case refers not only to vaginal sex, but also to anal sex as well as oral sex.

Genital herpes symptoms can include, sores, blisters, an itching sensation and sometimes even a burning sensation, and pain when urinating. Some people will also feel feverish, experience backache, muscle aches, or headaches. Yet still other people will get genital herpes symptoms which include swollen glands, and in some cases vaginal discharge.

Genital herpes symptoms of blisters and sores can become very painful at times. To relieve this pain, and also to help in drying the sores out faster, some people use a bath comprising of 1 teaspoon of salt mixed with 1 pint of warm water.

You will need to gently bathe or pat the area with this solution to find some relief. You can also try using an ice pack on this area if you think that it might help to lessen the pain from your genital herpes symptoms.

Treatment options for genital herpes symptoms include the use of antiviral medications, or natural and home remedies. There is no cure for the genital herpes virus, although the genital herpes symptoms can be cleared up with proper care and attention.
