Eye Herpes: Hot or Cold Compress for Relied?

*Astrid* asked:

I was recently diagnosed with Ocular (Eye) Herpes after seeing a dr. for the agonizing pain in my left eye of a scratching feeling. After he did a couple tests, he realized I had herpes in my eye. And no it's not like the STD kind, its more like having a cold sore on your lips.

Anyhow, he gave me drops to clear it up but in the meantime, how can I get relief from the pain? I take aspirin, but I'm wondering would it be better to use a cold compress with ice or a warn compress
