ive worked in ob/gyn nursing for years as a nurse and yes u can get it this way. if u perform oral on a meal he can get herpes too. i was also taught this in nursing school as well.

Some of us believe that the HSV1 virus that causes cold sores does not cause genital herpes. It is not so. HSV1 virus that causes cold sores can cause genital herpes. If anybody with cold sores touches your genitals with their mouth, you may contract genital herpes.
But HSV2 type virus that causes genital herpes rarely causes cold sores.
