what are the chances of getting herpes if you wear a condom?
opio-coca asked:
i didnt ask in the STD section cause those people are insanely crazy. some people over there think you can get syphilis through kissing. way to biased and propgandist.
however realisticaly, how likely is it that you can get herpes if you wear a condom? i heard just skin to skin contact. so does that mean the skin even that isnt protected by the condom is at risk?

even with a condom there is still a possibility of getting herpes…a condom doesnt cover all of your skin and yes the skin not protected by the condom is at risk

Well, I assume you mean genital herpes…. with a condom you are pretty safe…. unless you go down for the growl.

I’ve wondered about this same question. I’ve just stayed clear of any chicks I suspected or knew had anything. Maybe covering her or yourself in Saran wrap would keep you safe?

Herpeset:Genital Herpes Relief
The chances of getting herpes are pretty low anyway. If you are a man with a female partner with herpes, and you have unprotected sex with her several times a week for an entire year, only avoiding contact when symptoms are present, your chance of catching it would be about 5-10% max over the year.
Condoms provide more protection to a woman than a man. For a man the ‘protection factor’ of condoms can be as little as 0-20%. However the most often quoted statistic is a 50% drop in risk when using a condom.
I have heard of quite a lot of men who have caught herpes while wearing condoms. The problem is that most women have outbreaks on the external genitals, labia etc, and your skin will make contact with these even when you use a condom. And yes, you can get herpes on your balls and the base of your penis.
Another extremely common way to get herpes is unprotected oral sex. I caught genital herpes through receiving oral sex from a man with a history of cold sores on his mouth(oral herpes). He had no symptoms at the time. This method of transmission accounts for over 50% of new genital herpes infections and it happened to both me and my sister (not with the same guy or at the same time
).

Herpes is spread by touching, kissing, and sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. It can be passed from one partner to another and from one part of the body to another. Brief skin-to-skin contact is all that’s needed to pass the virus. Because herpes may have no symptoms for years, sometimes it is very difficult to know who passed it to whom.
