Can getting herpes from someone cause you to obsess over them?
TJ asked:
I contracted herpes from a gf years ago. We have since gone our own ways, and I've dated many women since, but I can't get her out of my mind. I feel that she will always be the true love that I let slip away. Could her giving me herpes cause my body to have a physiological response that makes me obsess over her like this?

That has nothing to do with herpes, that’s just your emotions. Herpes is a physical disease, not emotional or mental in any way.

Hmm, I think so. She changed your life forever so maybe in some weird way she did that to you through herpes. Or maybe she was a really good girlfriend? I don’t know what much about it.

Live outbreak FREE!
Obsession comes from the mind, not the body.
If you’re having a hard time and it sounds like you’re still in pain, it might be good to get some help. Guys have a huge tendency of running from problems and not looking at ourselves deeply ~ but if that’s where the pain is that’s also where the solution will be. Inside of you, my friend. That’s good news!
You might want to examine perhaps the qualities that she had and try to slow down with all your women and start selecting qualities that have meaning. Shouldn’t dating be getting you ready for marriage? Or at least a relationship that is headed that way? Qualities and virtues are really important things for a person to have. Maybe this is what you’re looking for now?
One thing I do is write a list of things with two columns of what I do and don’t like about myself, something I said, did or another individual or a situation…for some reason when we “see” things on paper, it feedsback into our brain and gives us clarity. Give it a try. Hope you find light!

Herpes causes more emotional problems than physical and the emotional part is different for every one just like the physical. Its just a bump/rash/sore that has such a horrible social stigma that the physical outbreak are far less of a concern than the mental/emotional problems that might occur.
Have you tried dating other women with H?
Maybe you feel a connection with your donor because she gave you something that will last longer than your relationship with her did. Its rare to have something that will last a lifetime, so I could understand if you are psychologically relating H (which will last a lifetime) with possibly losing a love of a lifetime.
You should try contacting her to see if something is truly there or if it is just a mental fixation because of contracting H from her.
