Chances of spreading oral herpes to the genitals?
XXOOXX**That Girl**XXOOXX asked:
I cannot believe I am asking this but...I know it is possible if you have oral herpes to spread it to your partners genitals. What I want to know is if it's possible that if one partner has a cold sore and the second partner kisses them and then performs oral sex can it still be spread? What are the chances?

I have heard that that is possible. Depending on the person’s immune system (since herpes is a virus) at the time, it could be very possible. I have never had that happen but I would NOT try it. It sucks but do one or the other, not both. Its totally not worth the risk.

I’m going to assume that you are talking about only have two people in the bed, and that teh partner who is kissing you is then performing oral sex ON YOU and not on someone else.
If that is the situation, then the chance of you catching YOUR OWN cold sore virus on your genitals is either very very small, or zero, depending on who you talk to.
If you’ve had oral herpes for more than a couple of months, your body has built up a strong immune response to that virus. Not quite enough to kill it, but enough that it would be very very difficult to get an infection of that exact same strain somewhere else on your body. Some doctors say its impossible. Others just say its very very difficult.
So, is it possible? Maybe so, maybe not. Is it likely? No, not at all likely.
