Sometimes you’ll never have an outbreak. I know someone who has had herpes for a long time and has never experienced one.
The only way to find out for sure if you have it is to get a blood test.

If you are going to have a classic initial outbreak, it will happen anywhere from a couple of days to about three weeks after infection.
But, as other folks have pointed out, MOST people who catch genital herpes have symptoms so mild that they don’t know that they have it. And even though they don’t have symptoms, they can still infect others.
Also, you may not catch it – in which case never. I have genital herpes, but my husband and I are careful, and as far as we know, he does not have genital herpes.
For reliable information on how herpes is transmitted, I strongly recommend the website below. There is a lot of misinformation around about herpes, and it’s always good to check your information against that of a reliable source (CDC, herpes.com, etc.)

some times out breaks can develope with in days or a month after being with a person who has herpes. but if your immune system is strong then it can stay dormant for years. most of the time herpes has no visable symotoms so its hard to tell who has it. most people don’t even know that they have herpes or are denying the fact that they have herpes. so they can spread it unknowingly. also it depends if they have an out break at the time. people with herpes are more contagious durring an out break then when they are not. if u are worried that u have herpes then the best way to tell would be to get tested for herpes.

Symptoms show up 1-30 days or longer after having sex. SOme people have no symptoms, some people get flu like symptoms. Then you would get small, painful blisters on sex organs or mouth, some itching and burning may happen before the blisters appear. The blisters can last 1-3 weeks. Even with out the blisters being present you can pass Herpes along to your partner.

typically, you will get an outbreak within few days. If it is a primum infection (so you have never contracted more common herpes labialis – usually caused by virus HSV-1), the outbreak can be accompanied by quite severe flu-like (or even strep-infection-like) symptoms, which of course cannot be remedied by antibiotics. Some people do claim they have never experienced a clinical outbreak, but this is either rare or they (in case of women) have had an outbreak deep in the vaginal wall. These people can often unwittingly pass on the infection.
