If you’ve never gotten cold sores before, I wouldn’t worry. You can’t transmit a virus that wasn’t there to begin with.

If you have HSV-1, then yes, it may be possible to give yourself HSV-2. If you have never had an active cold sore in your life, then no, it is not possible. You should try lube or lotion instead for lubrication, I’ve heard they work and feel better.
