With genital herpes, how can a man give his wife a baby without giving her herpes?
Scarlett asked:
I know herpes is spread when you have no signs as well as with signs.. but my question is, what methods can be used for couples with one partner infected ?
And if the 2nd partner later discovers she too has herpes, is unprotected sex ok or should precautions still be taken?

Stop Herpes Now and From Coming Back for Good!
It is possible for herpes to be transmitted when the partner is not in the active phase. The chances of transmission however are very small. It would involve careful planning, to tell when the woman is ovulating and to have intercourse unprotected in this window only- providing the man has no active lesions at that time.
Other options are via IVF routes. The man can provide a semen sample which can then be injected into the woman.

I think that if herpes could be preventable, it would be widely known and less people would contract it.
The wife may have to be artifically inseminated with the husbands sperm.

If you both have it, unprotected sex is perfectly okay, it won’t hurt anything (unless one of you has other diseases as well). But as far as getting pregnant goes (if you don’t have it yet), that’s a tricky one. There’s always artificial insemination, or you may just have to take the risk of contracting the disease. But the likelihood of contracting it while the disease is dormant is slim.

If the couple is married and monogamous and both are infected with herpies then there is no reason to use protection unless it would be for birth control.

he can’t. Even if he donated semen for her, the semen also carries the virus. And then the woman, being infected, would have to have a caesarean section to deliver the child, or it too would become infected.
So, if the wife really doesn’t want herpes, she needs to consider adoption, or artificial insemination with another donor’s clean semen.

Artificial insemination.
As for the second question, if the only STD that the original person has is Herpes, and then the second person also gets herpes then I would imagine it would be fine to have unprotected sex…so long as the female is on birth control too. Obviously you need to protect against unwanted pregnancies still even though there is no risk of either of you contracting herpes.

My mother informed me just recently that my dad has genital herpes and my mom had never gotten it, they were married for at least 15 years, have 3 kids and none of us have it.
I have herpes 1 (cold sores) and I gave that to my boyfriend when I was performing oral sex on him and now he gets outbreaks. We stop having sex when he has outbreaks but otherwise we don’t use protection.

As long as you don’t contract herpes in the first trimester of pregnancy, the baby will be ok.
Valtrex is a medication taken daily to keep outbreaks at bay, and sometimes prevent the spread of genital herpes.
Most cases are spread during an outbreak, so condoms or abstinance should be used during that time.
Did you know that one in 5 persons has genital herpes?
Also, did you know that someone can have genital herpes for years without even knowing they’re infected? (My case)
I got it from a boyfriend years ago, but my husband now doesn’t have it. We abstain if I feel like I am getting ready to have an outbreak, but otherwise, we don’t use condoms.
If I were to give it to him, we would still abstain during an outbreak, because that is the way to spread it (skin contact to the blister), and although he may have it, I wouldn’t want to trigger an outbreak in him.
We have an 8 week old together. He is perfectly fine.
It is possible. Good Luck.

Wow. The amount of misinformation in these answers is stunning.
To start, herpes is spread through skin-to-skin contact. So his semen will NOT contain the virus.
Second, as long as the couple does not have intercourse when he has symptoms, the likelihood of transmitting the virus is not huge. It’s not tiny, but it’s not huge. If he takes an antiviral, like Valtrex, the percentage drops even more. A study of partners where one had herpes and the other did not showed a 2% transmission rate per year without Valtex, and less than 1% with Valtex.
Third, even if she did get herpes, she could still have a healthy baby. She might choose to have a cesearean to prevent transmission to the baby, but there are no horrible medical consequences if he gives her herpes. There is no reason to go for artificial insemination, for pete’s sake!
Life is risk. And in my opinion, the risk of possibly giving her herpes is so GREATLY outweighed by the desire to have a baby that it isn’t even a contest.
