If the herpes virus is on an object how long would it take to die?

This is not on a living thing. Just an object. How long would it take to die off it is just left to stand. If you have links on this it woule be helpful. I know herpes can be spread from people to other people believe it or not. I know of one person who got an infection in her eye after being in the house of an infected family member.
I do not know if this went from a door knob or what.
I have a family member whom I am not living with who strangly contracted it on one of her fingers. It breaks out periodically and she has spread it to another part of her body already. I do not want to catch this as my friend did from visiting her relative. I want to figure this out.
There is all this stuff about casual contact and not to scare us, but what is the truth?
Nope the woman I am talking about actually got herpes in her eye. I looked up the medication she was prescribed after she told me. That was what it was for.
Thank you Jerry. What is must be is that the contact is very quick in proximity. Or the contact is direct somehow. The dermatiolgist told my anut that it is herpes on her finger. Then she spread it to another part of her body. This woman at work had an eye problem and went to the doctor and that was what it was. I have no clue where her relative had it. I imagine it was genital, but have not other info.
I am pretty sure this is genital herpes that is going in peoples eyes and on fingers. Babies get this in their eyes when they are born that is why they get the drops as a precaution. There are many kinds of herpes as you can tell. Like chicken pox.
Yeah she has the medication, but does not always take it because she has stomach aches from it. She is family and I do not want to get this crud. The sensible thing would be to take the medication all the time so that others would not get it. Many people do that, but who knows how many people she has infected since some stranger infected her.
I do not want to get it because it is painful and then I have something I might give to everyone and I will have to take medication everyday.
I just makes me not want to go over there. I do not want an infection.
I care about life not only as it affects me, but how it effects the future go figure. When I use water I think about the people after me who might want to drink some and take a bath.
